Michigan's buck to doe ratio

The Michigan's deer herd is so off balance when it comes to the buck to doe ratio. I think Michigan needs to change the hunting laws a little. I think that the DNR should make it so that a hunter has to harvest a doe before the hunter can harvest a buck. They should also change the law on antler size. I think that for a hunter to harvest a buck the deer must be six points or more. maybe that way there would be more mature bucks year after year. also harvesting a doe in order to harvest your buck might even the buck to doe ratio. in doing that the bucks in the area would have to be much more dominate bucks, making the rut much more exciting to hunt.
I live in northern Michigan and here there are many more does than bucks. So the bucks don't have to be nearly as dominate to breed with the does in the area. If the DNR would take some of these thoughts into consideration could really make the hunting great.
Another thing to think about is good deer management. things such as planting food plots for the deer. Not only would it be good for the deer herd but also all kinds of wild life, and is that not what the DNR is all about. There is a lot of public land out there and if the DNR would plant some good quality food plot for Spring , Summer, and fall could do great things for Michigan's wild life.

  1. I don't know much about hunting, so I have a few questions for you. Do people prefer hunting bucks? Why? Are people not allowed to hunt does right now? Why? How would people feel about the changes you've suggested?

    You've raised some interesting issues.
