if you find hot sign don't hesitate

The breeding season of deer for most deer hunters is the best time to get you buck, but if you hesitate you could be out of luck. If you find a good fresh rub line,or a active scape line set up a stand right away, and maybe a trail camera to. Some of my best hunt has happened when I set up on the spot and ambush the buck. If you haven't filled that area with human scent then you may have the uper hand. Set up fast and quite, and you may get lucky, but only if the deer sign is fresh.

know yor hunting area

Before committing, the best hunters assess the quality of the bucks that live in an area and try to cover lots of ground with out leaving a human presence . Low -impact scouting is the best option as the breeding season approaches. I like to alway check the sides of dirt roads, and field edges for big tracks. Try speaking to farmers in the area or land owners about deer sightings,it can never hurt.I've always found that glassing at dawn and dusk in open fields have been a low-impact way to scout,or just driving down some old dirt roads in a area of intrest can work. But the best way is to use a trail camera where you the deer are moving. Look for a good active trail, and set up the trail cam. this is about real deer, not ghosts,or wished for dream bucks. But dreams some times do come true.

Is there any sport in rifle hunting

I've been a avid bow hunter for as long as I can remember. But when I was a little kid I would small game hunt on my parents property with my crossman BB gun. I would shoot rabbits and grouse, but I wanted something more and I've found that some thing I bow hunting. To me I don't see any challenge in hunting with gun and high powered scope. Some even hunt that way over a bait pile, come on is that even hunting. where is the sport in that? Hunting in a heated blind in open field where deer feed. A hundred yard shot is not that hard with a scope. To me there is no sport in hunting with a gun. You put a bow in a rifle hunters hands and he wouldn't have a clue. Gun hunting gets all the hype because so many people gun hunt. Why one might ask? Because it is so easy that just about any one can do it. They get there gun sighted in a few shots and that's it. Tell me where is the sport in that?

Michigan's buck to doe ratio

The Michigan's deer herd is so off balance when it comes to the buck to doe ratio. I think Michigan needs to change the hunting laws a little. I think that the DNR should make it so that a hunter has to harvest a doe before the hunter can harvest a buck. They should also change the law on antler size. I think that for a hunter to harvest a buck the deer must be six points or more. maybe that way there would be more mature bucks year after year. also harvesting a doe in order to harvest your buck might even the buck to doe ratio. in doing that the bucks in the area would have to be much more dominate bucks, making the rut much more exciting to hunt.
I live in northern Michigan and here there are many more does than bucks. So the bucks don't have to be nearly as dominate to breed with the does in the area. If the DNR would take some of these thoughts into consideration could really make the hunting great.
Another thing to think about is good deer management. things such as planting food plots for the deer. Not only would it be good for the deer herd but also all kinds of wild life, and is that not what the DNR is all about. There is a lot of public land out there and if the DNR would plant some good quality food plot for Spring , Summer, and fall could do great things for Michigan's wild life.
